The client: a district newsroom in Jhikargacha

Chetona News 24 is an online newspaper with its office at Kayemkola Bazar in Jhikargacha upazila, Jashore. Its correspondents file from Jhikargacha, Chougachha, Abhaynagar and other parts of the district, and the desk also carries national and international stories.

Politics is by far the busiest beat: 329 of the stories sit in that section and 182 in special reports, followed by elections, countrywide news and national news. A typical day mixes a union-level meeting, a court case from Jashore town and a headline from Dhaka.

A news portal like this has to serve two groups at once. Reporters publish several times a day and need a simple way to do it; readers arrive looking for what happened near them and need to find it fast, in Bangla.

The challenge

An online newspaper is judged on two speeds: how fast a story goes up, and how fast a reader finds it. Four problems shaped the build.

A steady flow of reports

Hundreds of stories a year from several correspondents, each one needing a section, a lead photo and a byline.

Bangla on every screen

Headlines, menus, dates and labels all had to read naturally in Bangla, set in a typeface made for the script.

Local and national together

A village meeting and a national headline have to share one front page without one drowning the other.

Readers who pass stories on

Local news moves through Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram, so every report has to be easy to share.

What the news portal website development delivered

A WordPress news portal on the Foxiz theme, with a child theme and Elementor layouts, arranged around the way a district newsroom actually publishes.

A front page that moves

A featured slider for the top stories, a breaking-news ticker under the header, and a quick-links bar to the busiest sections.

Clear sections

Seven main sections in the menu — politics, international, sports, jobs, religion, entertainment and health — plus a second menu for opinion, science, literature, expatriate news and lifestyle.

36 category pages

Every beat, from elections to agriculture, gets its own page with a lead story, side stories and a paginated list.

Latest news with load more

The newest reports run as a list on the front page, and a load-more button brings in the next batch in place.

Most read and editor's picks

A ranked most-read block on a dark band, and a separate editor's-picks block the newsroom fills by hand.

Story pages built for reading

Breadcrumbs, byline, last-updated time and an estimated reading time at the top; related stories and comments at the end.

Text size and print

One button enlarges the article text, and another prints the report cleanly.

Share row on every story

Facebook, X, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Telegram and copy-link, right next to the article.

Bangla search

A results page that finds reports by Bangla words — a search for Jashore returns 589 matches.

Dark mode

A toggle in the header switches the whole news website to a dark palette, and back.

Weather and social boxes

A weather widget in the sidebar and a follow box for the newsroom's Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Telegram.

Reader accounts

Sign-in and registration for readers, and a notification bell in the header.

Inside the online newspaper

Every screen below was captured straight from chetonanews24.com on 16 October 2026, then placed inside desktop-browser and phone frames. Empty ad placeholders were hidden for the captures; the stories and layout are exactly as published.

Design decisions behind the news website

Bangla first, English a tap away

The site opens in Bangla. A language button in the corner gives an automatic English version for readers outside the district or abroad.

Sections follow the beats

The menu mirrors what the newsroom really covers, so a reader can go straight to politics, elections or countrywide news without scrolling the front page.

Comfort on small screens

Bigger text on request, a dark mode for night reading and a single clean article column keep long reports easy to follow on a phone.

Sharing sits with the story

The share row is part of the article, not hidden in a menu, because local news spreads through messaging apps as much as through search.

A typeface made for Bangla

Headlines and excerpts are set in Tiro Bangla, a font drawn for the script, so conjuncts and vowel signs stay clean at every size.

Every report is visible to search

Article and breadcrumb schema, Open Graph tags with image sizes, and a sitemap of every post help each story get indexed and look right when shared.

What every news portal needs

Planning news portal website development for your own newsroom? These are the parts that matter before the first story goes live.

A quick publishing flow

A reporter should be able to file a story, add a photo and pick a section in a few minutes.

Sections and tags that make sense

Readers browse by beat, and search engines read the same structure.

A front page that fills itself

Latest, featured and most-read blocks should update on their own as stories go out.

Story pages that suit a phone

Readable type, a steady layout and images that load as the reader scrolls.

Share and print tools

Passing a story on should be as easy as reading it.

Search that understands Bangla

Readers type place names and people's names in Bangla; the results have to match.

Structured data and a sitemap

Article schema and an up-to-date sitemap help a news website get indexed quickly and shown correctly.

Bylines and dates on every story

Readers trust a report more when they can see who filed it and when it was last updated.

Planned ad slots

Ad positions decided at design time let the online newspaper earn without breaking its layout.

How much does news portal website development cost?

It depends on how many sections, page layouts and reader tools the newsroom wants. A WordPress site from WebDesignerBD begins at ৳9,999.

A full news portal like Chetona News 24 — a Bangla front page with a slider and a ticker, dozens of category pages, most-read and editor's-pick blocks, dark mode, share tools, an English switch and ad positions — gets its own written quote once the section list and the features are settled.

In both cases the price is agreed in writing before the build begins, and it does not grow later.

Check this news portal yourself

The site is public. Open it on a phone, the way most local readers would, and try these.

  • 1Open the menu and jump to any section
  • 2Search for a place name in Bangla and look through the results
  • 3Open a story and try the text-size button and the share row
  • 4Turn on dark mode from the header
  • 5Switch to English from the language button
  • 6Scroll to the most-read band and see what readers are opening right now

Questions about this project

01

What is news portal website development?

It is building a website for a newsroom: sections, a front page that updates as stories go out, story pages, search, sharing, and the setup that helps search engines index every report. A good news portal also lets reporters publish on their own, without a developer.

02

What is Chetona News 24 built with?

WordPress, with the Foxiz news theme, a child theme and Elementor layouts. Site Kit by Google, GTranslate and Autoptimize handle analytics, the English switch and file optimisation.

03

Can a news website be in both Bangla and English?

Yes. Chetona News 24 is written in Bangla and opens in Bangla; a language button gives an automatic English version for readers who want it.

04

How many stories does the site carry?

925 published stories as of 16 October 2026, starting in August 2025, spread over 36 category pages. Politics is the largest section, with 329 stories.

05

Which features help readers on a phone?

A slide-out menu with its own search box, a dark mode, a text-size button on every story, and share buttons for Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram and more.

06

Does the site carry advertising?

Yes. The layout has ad positions between front-page blocks, under the lead story on section pages and in the sidebar of story pages, and the page source loads Google AdSense.

07

How do search engines find every story?

WordPress's built-in sitemap lists every post, page, category, tag and author — 991 URLs on 16 October 2026 — and robots.txt points crawlers to it. Each story page also carries Article and BreadcrumbList schema and Open Graph tags.

08

How much does news portal website development cost?

Plain WordPress sites from WebDesignerBD begin at ৳9,999. A full online newspaper with many sections, custom front-page blocks and ad slots is priced separately, in writing, once we have talked through sections, reporters and features.

09

Can you build a news portal like this for my newspaper?

Yes. Tell us your sections, how many reporters will publish, which languages you need and how you plan to earn from ads, and a fixed written price comes back before any work starts.
