The client and the search problem

BlueGuard cleans air ducts, dryer vents, heat pumps and air exchangers for homes and businesses across eastern Ontario, the Durham region and western Quebec. Nobody looks for that kind of company by browsing; they type a service and a town into Google and call one of the first few names they see.

That makes the job of SEO very concrete: for every town BlueGuard serves, there has to be a page Google trusts enough to show, and the brand itself has to win outright when someone searches for it by name.

WebDesignerBD built the site (that story is in the BlueGuard website design case study) and handles the search side as well. This page looks only at the search results.

What local search asked for

A cleaning company that covers dozens of towns in two provinces has a few specific problems to solve before Google will send it calls.

Many towns, one company

Ottawa, Kanata, Oshawa, Whitby, Gatineau, Montreal and more — each search names a different place.

Several services per town

Duct cleaning, dryer vents and heat pumps are searched separately, so one page per town is not enough.

Two languages

English and French searchers need their own versions, and Google needs to know which is which.

Competing directories

Local results are crowded with lists and aggregators; a small company needs pages that answer better.

SEO work you can verify on the live site

Everything below can be checked on blueguard.ca today — in the page source, the sitemaps or Search Console. It is the foundation of this local SEO case study.

111 city service pages

The page sitemap lists 111 URLs under /service-areas/ — duct, dryer vent, heat pump and commercial cleaning, town by town (sitemap read 16 Oct 2026).

Titles written for the search

The Ottawa page's title opens with "Duct Cleaning Ottawa" and adds the starting price and certification — the words a searcher compares.

Local business schema

The homepage marks BlueGuard up as a HomeAndConstructionBusiness with City service areas, a Service and an Offer.

FAQ and breadcrumb markup

City pages carry FAQPage and BreadcrumbList structured data; blog posts carry BlogPosting and FAQPage.

Bilingual hreflang

Pages declare en, en-CA, fr and fr-CA alternates, so English and French searchers get their own version.

Clean sitemaps

A sitemap index with post, page, video and local sitemaps, read successfully by Google on 16 Oct 2026.

Business Profile tracking

The website link on the Google Business Profile carries a UTM tag, so Search Console reports those visits as their own page row.

Guides that rank

Blog guides on Ottawa and Oshawa duct cleaning bring in searches the service pages alone would miss.

The Search Console reports

Screens from BlueGuard's Search Console, captured on 16 October 2026. Performance views use the range 17 Sep – 14 Oct 2026, Canada; the account details are hidden.

Choices behind the local SEO results

Win the brand search first

If someone types the company's name, nothing else should come first. In this window, "blueguard duct cleaning" averaged 1.1 and "blue guard duct cleaning" 1.0 (Canada).

Tag the Business Profile link

Tagging the Profile's website link separates map-pack visits from ordinary organic ones — 55 clicks at an average position of 2.0 in this window.

A page per town and per service

Separate pages for each service in each town give Google a precise answer for searches like "duct cleaning oshawa" (average 6.6).

Write guides for comparison searches

People comparing companies read lists. The Ottawa guide earned 31 clicks from 12,925 impressions in this window.

Treat phones as the main screen

Mobile brought 161 of the 293 clicks, with a better average position (11.9) than desktop (20.0).

What a service-area business needs for local SEO

The pattern behind this local SEO case study works for any company that travels to its customers — cleaners, plumbers, movers, electricians.

A Business Profile that links home

Keep it complete and point its website link at a tagged URL, so you can measure what it brings.

One page per town and service

Write each one for that place — local details, prices and questions, not a swapped city name.

Structured data that matches

Business, service, FAQ and breadcrumb markup that agrees with what the page says.

Language versions with hreflang

If you serve two languages, give each its own page and tell Google how they pair.

Guides for researching buyers

Cost, comparison and how-to articles reach people before they are ready to book.

Search Console every week

Watch which pages gain impressions but few clicks — those titles and snippets need work first.

How much does local SEO like this cost?

WebDesignerBD's monthly SEO starts at ৳7,999 a month.

A company with dozens of towns, several services and two languages needs more pages and more upkeep than a single-location shop, so the monthly scope is agreed after a free audit and written down before work begins.

You see the same Search Console data we do, so progress is never a matter of taking our word for it.

Questions about this project

01

What is a local SEO case study?

It is a write-up of how a business that serves a specific area is found on Google, backed by real data — here, BlueGuard's own Search Console numbers with their date range, plus the work on the site that you can check yourself.

02

Are these numbers real?

Yes. They come straight from Google Search Console for blueguard.ca, filtered to Canada, for 17 Sep – 14 Oct 2026. The screenshots on this page are from that account, with the account details hidden.

03

Why only searches from Canada?

BlueGuard serves Ontario and Quebec, so searches from Canada are the ones that can become customers. Filtering to Canada keeps the figures about the market that matters.

04

Does BlueGuard rank first for every search?

No. Branded searches average about position 1 and Ottawa duct cleaning searches average around 5–6, but broader searches like "duct cleaning near me" averaged 24.7 in this window, and some city pages still sit low. Average position is an average across many searches, not a fixed rank.

05

How soon does local SEO work show up in Search Console?

Search Console data arrives with a delay of a few days, and Google needs time to crawl and re-evaluate changed pages. Judge local SEO results over weeks and months, comparing like-for-like date ranges, rather than day by day.

06

Which Search Console numbers matter most for a local business?

Clicks and impressions for searches that name your service and your towns, the average position of your city pages, and how many visits come through your Business Profile link. Branded searches show whether people who already know you can find you.

07

Did WebDesignerBD build the website as well?

Yes. The same studio designed and built blueguard.ca; the design and build are covered in the separate BlueGuard website design case study.

08

How much does local SEO cost with WebDesignerBD?

Monthly SEO starts at ৳7,999 a month. How much work a multi-town, multi-service business needs is agreed after a free audit, and you get it on paper before we start.

09

Can you get results like this for my business?

We can do the same work — local pages, markup, Business Profile setup and steady Search Console care. Rankings depend on your market and competitors, so we promise the work and show you the data, not a position.
